I have a sweet Filipina wife but some times we just don’t seem to connect when we talk.
Some words have different meaning to each of us and some things we just don’t hear correctly because of different pronunciations or as my wife puts it “I am too much slang”.
I was sitting at home today when my wife walked into the living room and laid her things on the sofa while she finished getting ready to go out.
I noticed a very small package neatly wrapped in a paper towel covering with her name written in ink and carefully taped. I picked it up and studied it for short time. It was very light and seemed to be some kind of plastic container inside the paper covering.
When my wife came back into the living room (still getting ready to go out) my curiosity got the better of me so I asked her what was in the small package. She simply said “it’s my pickle” and went back into the bed room.
As I sat there I started thinking that some times my wife takes food for her lunch but my wife doesn’t eat pickles and we didn’t have any pickles in the house anyway so …… What the hell did she mean?
When she came back and was gathering her things I picked up the package and asked again “what is in here”?
My wife said “it’s my pickle hon”.
I asked “what is the pickle for?”
She said “well you know I have a pysical today right”?
I thought about that for a minute and then it hit me …. I said …. OH SHIT … and she said “yes hon that’s my PECAL for the PYSICAL I will have today”.
Some times it’s best not to ask.

PS:
I know it's not as nice as a double wide trailer in the boonies in the USA where the taxes alone cost as much as my rent which includes cable tv, association dues with guard, garbage and water but the top left picture is the house I rent now in Sucat, Paranaque. The other houses and business are located in this same compound. Maybe some folks can call it a slum but it suits me just fine. Total year rental excluding electric and internet connection P144,000 ($3000 + -)
Electricity and water service is regular and more than sufficient. We have had tv cable outages but there is ongoing upgrades in this area so we hope it is a temporary problem.
Rentals can be found for much less and much more. This is an average neighborhood in a semi-secured (night guard only) compound. It's a 3 bed room 1 bath/with hot water shower bungalow style in a nice quiet subdivision. Most of our neighbors are Visaya with the family straight across from us being Muslims. Everyone here has been more than friendly and helpful for the two plus months we have lived here. I was a bit skeptical about the area until we made it high and dry (just barely) during all the flooding recently.
